1.8 Fluorinated gases including hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs):. HFCs are, together with perfluorocarbons (PFCs) and sulphur hexafluoride (SF6), a fluorinated greenhouse gas (F-gas). F-gases are powerful greenhouse gases, with a global warming effect up to 23,000 times greater than carbon dioxide (CO2). HFCs are the most relevant F-gases from a climate perspective. As a signatory of the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol, the UK is committed to reduce our consumption of HFCs and to licence and report on them annually. Reducing emissions from F-gases is a part of UK's effort to implement the Paris Agreement under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050...

Research work carried out on multi-species swards has shown beneficial results on low nitrogen input plots which has the potential to provide a more environmentally friendly production system allowing for increased Carbon sequestration while simultaneously reducing emissions of nitrous oxide, a potent greenhouse gas.
The measure was operated through Agri-retailers/Co-ops who discounted the price of each bag of multi-species seed on receipt of an approval letter from applicants participating in the scheme. The Agri-retailer/Co-op was then re-imbursed by the Department of Agriculture Food & the Marine

Import licences for pesticides (strictly for quarantine and pre-shipment cargo treatment) containing methyl bromide, an ozone depleting substance, are issued by the Trade and Industry Department.
