Connecting Europe Facility (in the field of energy) (CEF Energy): CEF Energy is available for trans European energy infrastructure projects such as gas pipelines, transmission grids, LNG terminals, gas storage, smart grids, and carbon dioxide networks. Every two years the European Commission draws up a list of EU projects of common interest (PCIs) which may apply for CEF funding.
Since 2021, CEF Energy includes an additional window for cross border projects in the field of renewable energy (cross border RES projects). There is an application process to obtain the cross border RES project status first, before being eligible for CEF Energy funding. The first three such projects were selected in 2022, which cover offshore wind park, hydrogen value chain and decarbonised district heating system

The ERDF (in the field of energy): The ERDF focuses its investments on several key priority areas, including the low carbon economy for the period 2014 2020 and a greener, low carbon transitioning towards a net zero carbon economy and resilient Europe for the period 2021 2027.
Activities under a greener, low carbon transitioning towards a net zero carbon economy and resilient Europe by promoting clean and fair energy transition, green and blue investment, the circular economy, climate change mitigation and adaptation, risk prevention and management, and sustainable urban mobility (PO2).
Furthermore, some ERDF 2014 2020 resources must be channelled specifically towards low carbon economy projects: 20% in more developed regions; 15% in transition regions; and 12% in less developed regions: 12%.
