Phytosanitary requirements to prevent the introduction and establishment of plants regulated as pests in Canada.

Pest risk analysis was conducted on the above pest plant species and it was determined that it poses a significant risk to Canada's plant resource base. Based on this analysis, the CFIA is proposing to regulate this species as quarantine pests under the Plant Protection Act. This species is in addition to species that are already regulated by the CFIA under the Plant Protection Act.

Amendment to Resolution No. 1.929 of 2005…
Amendment to Resolution No. 1.929 of 2005 establishing phytosanitary requirements for the importation of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) tubers for consumption, produced in the Argentine Republic.

The presence of Andean potato weevil (Phyrdenus muriceus), which is a major quarantine pest for Chile, has been detected in consignments from Argentina. The entry of this pest into Chile could put the country's phytosanitary resources at risk. It is therefore considered necessary to establish the corresponding provisional measures.
Environment related objective
To protect from the pest and avoid putting the country's "phytosanitary resources" at risk
