 At ECCAS level, the organization of a Conference of Ministers responsible for the forests of Central Africa in 2000 provided a framework for harmonization initiatives. This followed the "Declaration of Yaoundé", in which the ECCAS Heads of State proclaimed, among other things, their support for the preservation of biodiversity and the sustainable management of tropical forests. These commitments were institutionalized in 2005 in the form of a treaty on the conservation and sustainable management of forest ecosystems and the establishment of the Central African forests Commission (COMIFAC).

SAIL and Heiploeg Group operate the Suriname Atlantic seabob shrimp fishery , which was certified by the Marine Stewardship Council in November 2011 as being sustainably managed.  

Wholly state-owned enterprise Eskom started a demand-management programme in 2006 aimed at reducing demand through, inter alia, rationalizing electricity use and promoting the use of alternative energy.

The Government plans to develop trade in organically produced products and trade in products from sustainable agriculture

A new Tourism Policy and Implementation Strategy was adopted in 2003 and continues to aim at the sustainable management of natural resources.

The Office of Trade Negotiations (OTN) was established in March 2007 to serve as a coordination office among the relevant agencies to develop government positions and strategies for trade negotiations. During the period 2014-2015, government's Aid for Trade efforts were intensified. Active engagement with bilateral trade partners and international financial institutions has reaped benefits to attract increased ODA for strategic infrastructure development projects such as airport development, renewable energy installation and bridge construction. Such projects will address some of the supply side constraints impeding economic growth and trade.

Agriculture's contribution to GDP fell to 4% in 2013 from over 5% in 2000 (Table 1.1). The sector has not fully recovered from the devastation left by hurricane Ivan in 2004, which caused the destruction of 90% of Grenada's nutmeg trees (section 4.1). Grenada is the world's second largest producer of nutmeg. Since the previous TPR of Grenada, the production of nutmeg has been recovering although, affected by the nutmeg wilt disease, the industry barely reached 10% of its pre hurricane level. Nevertheless, the share of agricultural exports in total exports has been growing and reached 46.5% of total exports in 2011; nutmeg accounts for some 35% of agricultural exports.
