Illegal fishing and the lack of regulation are cited as the main challenges to sustainable fisheries in Lake Victoria. In a decade, revenues from fish exports have declined by about 30%, to USD 840 million in 2015. In 2009, the Council of Ministers launched "Operation Save the Nile Perch", an initiative aiming at recovering some species' populations.

Under the Biosafety Act, NBA's approval is required for any activity involving a genetically modified organism. This includes their importation, exportation or transit. The approval process may involve a risk assessment to identify and evaluate the potential adverse effects of the GMO on human health and the environment. (...)

Brazil signed the UN Convention on a Code of Conduct for Liner Conferences in 1975 but has not ratified it yet, as its provisions on rejection of proposals on freight rates put forward by Liner Conferences (article 14, paragraph 6) do not conform with Brazilian law. Brazil is a member of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and has ratified a number of IMO conventions related to maritime safety, prevention of maritime pollution, and civil liability, among others. During the review period, no action was taken to either sign or ratify any other IMO conventions or recent amendments to those that it is already a signatory. Brazil is a party to the Multilateral Agreement on Inland Waterway Transportation through the Paraguay-Parana Rivers, together with Argentina, the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Paraguay, and Uruguay.

At present, tourism is mainly being developed in the coastal provinces, which can offer sunshine and beaches on the "everything included" model. The strategy is to move away from the enclave model to a diversified, competitive and sustainable model that contributes more to the economy and the welfare of the local communities. During the review period, this strategic approach was shaped by both the National Systemic Competitiveness Plan and the National Development Strategy (END) 2030. For its part, the National Public Sector Multiannual Plan 2013 2016, which is linked with the END 2030, lays down priority measures for supporting the diversification, competitiveness and sustainability of tourism. These are: (i) to create new tourism products (ecotourism, cultural tourism, cruising (Section 4.5.3.2.2) and health tourism) and tourist areas, (...)

In order to counterbalance the decline in the number of tourists, the Ministry of Tourism has developed a six-pillar Global Strategy that will be soon enshrined in a new Tourism Law, which as at October 2017 was still in the drafting process and is expected in the course of 2018. These six pillars are: (...) promoting green tourism. (...) The Strategy acknowledges that traditional cultural tourism, and an all-inclusive seaside hotel, are just two segments among others, and seeks to develop other types of tourism products such as green tourism and to promote tourism in all governorates.
