The European Energy Union means making energy more secure, affordable and sustainable. It will allow a free flow of energy across borders and a secure supply in every EU country, for every citizen. New technologies and renewed infrastructure will cut household bills and create new jobs and skills, as companies expand exports and boost growth. It will lead to a sustainable, low carbon and environmentally friendly economy, putting Europe at the forefront of renewable energy production and the fight against global warming. As a follow up to this Communication, in the coming period concrete measures will be proposed and adopted. So far, no concrete measures have been taken.

Thirty-three additional SHPPs are under construction, with about total projected 63.2 MW capacity and 250 million kWh annual supply. Anual hydropower resource potential is estimated at 222.4 million kWh.

Relevant information
The CEMAC countries have all ratified the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. Community regulations reflecting these commitments were adopted in 2005. In accordance with these regulations, the importation, exportation and re-exportation of these substances, products that contain them and equipment that uses them are subject to the procurement of a licence issued by the Minister responsible for trade of each member State, after consulting the Minister responsible for the environment.
