On 9 April 2011, the Government adopted a national strategy for the sustainable development of tourism during the period 2011-2020 offering a development framework for the planning, improvement, promotion and management of the tourism sector to be implemented by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Posts and Tourism, with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

Objective of the Government are to improve the national energy mix from 40% of renewable energy to 50% for the grid and from 5% to 10% for off-grid electricity by 2011, and to have 30% of fuel used in transport from biofuel, Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) or Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) by 2010.
