The CETA (Canada-EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement)'s Trade and Environment Chapter provisions, consistent with Canada's existing environment agreements negotiated in parallel to FTAs, include commitments to foster good environmental governance, effectively enforce environmental laws, not waive or derogate from those laws in order to promote trade or investment, and promote public participation and transparency. In addition, the CETA expands the areas Canada traditionally covers in its environmental provisions by recognizing the importance of managing forests, fisheries and aquaculture in a sustainable way. The sugar industry as of 2015 employs approximately 5,402 farmers, most of which are in the northern sugar belt; western Belize welcomed a huge investment in the sugar growing and manufacturing. The investment is expected to boost domestic exports of raw sugar and molasses, and also has potential to increase energy production from sugar waste. (...)

Notwithstanding all these, the sector still remains challenged by limited infrastructure, Sierra Leone's international image, the relatively high costs of travelling to Sierra Leone, the weak institutional and legislative frameworks for the sector and the long-term sustainability of key tourist sites.

The ambitiousness of this real per capita GNI target by 2030 is supported by the robustness of the GoE’s unwavering political will. In 2012, the Maldives formulated a medium-term investment plan to scale up renewable energy investments (including large-scale renewable energy development) to meet the rising demand for electricity and to increase national energy security.
