Thus, in December 2011, a National Climate Plan was adopted and presented at the 17th Conference of the parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 17), held in Durban, South Africa.

The revision of the Investment Catalogue appears to be consistent with the goals of the 12th Five Year Plan, which calls for a more efficient use of foreign investment in sectors such as modern agriculture, high and new technology, advanced manufacturing, energy conservation and environmental protection, new power sources, and modern service industries, areas in which foreigners should be encouraged to invest.

Switzerland plays an active role in all international negotiations on the environment in order to promote sustainable development worldwide. The relevant legal basis for this is the Swiss Constitution (Articles 2, 54 and 73) and, in particular, the Federal Law on protection of the environment (LPE, RS814.01) , together with the Federal Council's reports on foreign policy.  Switzerland considers that implementing trade-related measures that are both non-discriminatory and non-protectionist within the framework of multilateral environmental agreements is, under certain circumstances, the most effective way of ensuring that environmental objectives are met. The implementation of environmental regulations is chiefly the responsibility of the Federal Office for the Environment (OFEV). The Office considers thatenvironmental policy must also be designed as a policy for managing natural resources and long-term protection of natural capital. Likewise, policies in areas such as agriculture, electricity, transport, trade and development aid must automatically incorporate environmental concerns.

In readiness for more and better agro-exports, the above-mentioned EU-TRTA programmes have provided a large number of capacity-building measures on SPS matters. (...) Initiatives such as strengthening the SPS management system; the establishment of the NAPHIS (National Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service), and the approval of Pakistan Bio-Security Authority Bill and Food Safety and Phytosanitary Laws has been achieved.(...)

As a result of implementing public policies that incentivize the efficient, economic and environmentally sustainable production of biofuels, sales of ethanol (obtained from sugar cane and grains) were 77% higher in 2016 compared to 2011. Where biodiesel is concerned, consumption was 146,883 litres in 2011 (obtained from vegetable and animal oil), and 10,094,977 litres in 2016 (obtained solely from vegetable oil, resulting in better quality and higher demand).
