Environment related objective
|
To develop sustainable use of natural resources, and enhance adaptability to climate variability and change.
Overall project aim:
To help rural producers to develop sustainable use of natural resources, enhance adaptability to climate variability and change, and promote the modernization of Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries management of climate - and natural resource-related information and services.
The above objective will be achieved by developing and implementing instruments that provide producers with essential and timely information that enables them to better manage natural resources on their farms. Producers will also receive technical and financial assistance to encourage them to invest in their production systems, with a view to reducing risks and increasing their ability to adapt to extreme weather events.
The project consists of the following components:
a. Development of an information system with interoperable levels as a basis for the implementation of a national agricultural information system (coordinated by Dr María Nela González).
b. Mitigation of and/or adaptation to the effects of climate change by implementing comprehensive sub-projects for individual farm holdings and increasing and/or stabilizing the production, income and sustainable development of such holdings (carried out by the Directorate-General of Rural Development (DGDR) and coordinated by Eduardo Maldini).
c. Improvement of natural resource management by means of new soil maps and the implementation of plans for the use and management of soil, water and rural areas (carried out by the Directorate-General of Renewable Natural Resources (RENARE) and coordinated by Marcelo Galain).
d. Establishment, for the purposes of management, general coordination and cooperation with public and private institutions, of a project management unit responsible for administration, finance, communications, dissemination, training, planning and monitoring (under the executive management of Jorge Marzaroli).
