The Key Capability Area Funding supported the development of projects that make a major contribution to the development of the ACT's Key Capability Areas of cyber security, renewable energy, space and spatial information, plant and agricultural sciences, healthy and active living and further education partnerships.

A strong and sustainable economy is essential to meet the needs of the Canberra community now and into the future. It is essential for the ACT to grow its economy by diversifying the non-public service sector. The education and research sector, and the sector specialisations and growth building assets within it, have been identified as a primary driver of long term wealth creation and jobs in the ACT economy.

The Key Capability Area Funding is part of the Government's election commitment to "provide funding to boost the capabilities in the Territory's key areas of strength."

In Confident & Business Ready: Building on Our Strengths, the ACT Government also committed to an economic development focus in its relationship with the higher education and research sector. In particular, the Government undertook to work with the institutions to support ongoing development of areas of strength and to stimulate economic growth in the ACT's Key Capability Areas.

To improve water flow efficiency for the environment in the Lachlan and southern-connected Murray Darling Basin, acquire unencumbered water entitlements for the Australian Government, and to assist communities to adjust to a future with less water

The On-farm Energy Audit and Capital Infrastructure Grant Program supports the Tasmanian Government AgriVision 2050 Policy which aims to increase the value of the state's agriculture and agri-food sectors to AUD10 billion by 2050.

The program supports Tasmanian businesses undertaking an energy audit, allowing eligible farm businesses to access two-thirds of the cost of having the audit undertaken by a suitably qualified professional

The program aims to reduce energy costs to strengthen the profitability and sustainability of farm businesses. This supports the government's AgriVision 2050 policy and sets a target for growing the value of the agriculture sector in Tasmania.

The Grant were administered through the Tasmanian Government's Department of State Growth.

To drive greater energy efficiency for regulated products; ensure that consumers can make informed choices to improve energy efficiency and reduce energy consumption, energy costs and green house gas emissions; and give effect to commitments made under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)
