The TPP Environment chapter includes commitments addressing a broad range of environmental challenges in the Asia-Pacific region, such as combating wildlife trafficking and illegal logging and associated trade, promoting sustainable fisheries management, and prohibiting harmful fisheries subsidies that negatively affect overfished fish stocks or support vessels engaged in illegal fishing. The TPP Agreement also liberalizes trade in environmental goods and services. The chapter also creates a framework for environmental cooperation and capacity building to help developing TPP countries meet their obligations. Obligations in the chapter are subject to the same dispute settlement procedures and remedies as obligations in other chapters of the TPP Agreement, including the availability of trade sanctions for violations. In the T-TIP negotiations, the United States is also seeking ambitious environmental commitments, including those relating to the protection and conservation of wildlife, marine fisheries, and forest resources.

The Burundi 2025 vision is a planning instrument for long-term economic and social development which will guide national policies in the area of sustainable development, with a view to satisfying the needs of present and future generations, while the growth and poverty reduction strategy paper aims, inter alia, at land and environmental management for sustainable development

Lao PDR works closely with other sectors and local authorities to explore plans and develop visitor attractions in a way that is as sustainable as possible. Tourist sites have been classified into three categories: natural, historical and cultural. So far, 985 sites have been surveyed and identified.

By introducing various special taxes, the reform also combined the use of new tax bases with the achievement of non tax goals. Thus, the reform included new environmental and health taxes that place Mexico at the international forefront in the design of tax tools for environmental and health purposes. A tax was introduced on fossil fuel consumption in line with the carbon content of the fuel. On health, a 1 peso/L tax was placed on flavoured drinks that contain calorific sweeteners and an 8% tax on calorie dense foods.

Strategic agricultural development goals in 2012 are achieving sustainable self-sufficiency and self-sufficiency, rising food diversification, increasing added value, competitiveness and exports, increasing farmers welfare.

In the period under review, and as mentioned above, Switzerland moved to negotiating and concluding free trade agreements with a dedicated chapter on trade and sustainable development. With some partner countries, Switzerland also engages in labour dialogues accompanying the implementation of FTAs.

Japan has been financing the African Development Bank in order to boost Africa’s sustainable development.

The plan envisages making the DRC the third most popular destination for tourism in sub Saharan Africa by 2030. The associated action plan includes restoring national parks and access routes to promote green tourism. There are also plans to add value to the reserves and nature sites by improving and increasing accommodation in the vicinity.
