The European Union -Korea FTA is the first FTA concluded by the European Union to include a comprehensive chapter on trade and sustainable development, which puts a particular emphasis on the commitments of both sides to adhere to internationally recognised standards in the area of labour and environment. The agreement also provides the first example of implementation of such provisions in practice and for the involvement of civil society. Finally, there will be better access to government procurement markets.

The Growth and Social Protection Strategy (GSPS) identifies the challenges facing Dominica as those related to accelerating growth in the economy that can be sustainable. The challenges are economic, social, political, and environmental, some of which are beyond the control of Dominica. Under the 2001 Investment Law, the Minister of Finance can grant various types of incentives in respect of both new investments and the expansion or replacement of existing ones. As a small island developing state, Mauritius is vulnerable due to the exiguity of its market, geographical isolation, its proneness to natural disasters, among others and its exposure to trade shocks. In this regard, Mauritius has been at the fore regarding the elaboration of a Work Programme for Small Economies in accordance with Paragraph 35 of the Doha Ministerial Declaration.. (…)

Tonga also benefits from close engagement from development partners. Tonga's key bilateral partners include Australia, New Zealand, the People's Republic of China, Japan, Korea and the European Union (through both the European Commission and individual EU Member States). Tonga also benefits from support from multilateral/inter-governmental development partners – in particular the Asian Development Bank, World Bank, and various United Nations agencies – as well as regional bodies under the Pacific Islands Forum and the Secretariat of the Pacific Community. The North American Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) oversees trilateral cooperation on environmental matters. The United States, together with Mexico and Canada, have continued efforts to ensure that trade liberalization and environmental policies are mutually supportive, including by having trade and environment officials participate in the development of the CEC's work plans.
