In Zanzibar, the main legislation is the Forest Resources Management and Conservation Act No. 10, 1996, the accompanying Forest Resources Management and Conservation Act Regulations, and the Forest Import and Export Regulations, 2014. The Act sets out the different forest management areas, licensing procedures, conservation and protection measures, and provisions on fires and offences, and establishes a forestry development fund; and the Regulations set out fees, compensation, and prices of forest products and activities.

The National Marine Policy (1995) laid out a comprehensive framework for major elements of Canada's marine transportation system, including the port system, which consists of Canada Port Authorities (CPAs), public ports (which may be owned by Transport Canada or by other entities), and private ports. In all cases, the Minister of Transport has the authority to establish the regulatory framework regarding marine safety, security, and environmental protection; and monitor compliance with regulatory requirements. The Forestry Law was last amended in 2007 to strengthen the sustainable management of forests, and, in the same year, the Wildlife Law was also enacted to provide a stronger legal framework for biodiversity conservation. The Forestry Law lays out measures and regulations for the sustainable management, conservation, development, use and inspection of forest resources and forest land.

The Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism, established in 2002 and in force since 2003, developed the First Strategic Plan for 2003-11, and prepared a provisional second Plan for 2013-21. The goal of the second Plan is to establish measures for the conservation, management, sustainable utilization and development of fisheries resources and related ecosystems; build capacity amongst fishers and optimize the social and economic returns from their fisheries; and promote competitive trade and stable market conditions.
