In 2012, the Maldives formulated a medium-term investment plan to scale up renewable energy investments (including large-scale renewable energy development) to meet the rising demand for electricity and to increase national energy security.

The EU has played a leading role in the negotiations for an Environmental Goods Agreement (EGA). The aim of an EGA is to (i) eliminate tariffs on a broad range of environmental goods used, among other things, for renewable energy generation, waste management, water treatment and air pollution control, and (ii) address non-tariff issues in the sector and services linked to environmental goods though a future work programme.

The goal of the Project is to improve water resources management in Barbados and sustainable water and wastewater service provision by the Barbados Water Authority (BWA). The Project will support the Government’s efforts to modernize the institutional setting of the water and sanitation sector; improve water production infrastructure and the efficiency of the operations of BWA by reducing unaccounted-for-water and implementing adequate cost recovery mechanisms.

The manifesto explicitly specifies the continuation of the open and liberal approach and an emphasis to deepen engagement with private sector, foreign investors and bilateral partners to help expand our export potential and develop enabling infrastructures, such as ports and airports, which are critical for Maldives to remain in the projected growth trajectory. The openness pledged however, is within the context of sustainability, good governance and targeted towards boosting the long-term productive capacity of the country. The policies also put a particular emphasis on diversifying the productive and tradable sectors, as defined in the National Diversification Strategy of 2012.

As highlighted in the Malawi Growth and Development Strategy (MGDS), tourism in Malawi has the potential for growth to provide income, foreign exchange earnings and employment. To contribute to economic development, the Government is aiming at establishing Malawi as a principal and leading eco-tourism destination in Africa and also to increase domestic tourism.

In order to expand export opportunities and improve the competitiveness of domestic producers in foreign markets, in 2013 the Ministry of Economy of the Kyrgyz Republic in partnership with the International Trade Centre (ITC) and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) with the use of the ITC experience and methodology (which focuses on consideration of trade within the wider framework of its development, taking into account the issues of poverty reduction, strengthening the women's capacity, conservation and sustainable development of the environment and other developmental issues) has been developing the national Strategy on Export Promotion.
