The Fishery and Aquaculture Management component aims to generate public policy instruments to support the regulation and administration of fishing and aquaculture activities, by encouraging the sustainable development of fisheryand aquaculture resources through inshore fishing management projects. The support amounts to up to Mex$2.5 million per local or state instrument and up to Mex$20 million per regional instrument. The projects must be aligned on the National Sustainable Fishing and Aquaculture Framework Programme (PRNPAS) and the Sectoral Agriculture and Fisheries Development Programme 2007-2012.

Relevant information
To ensure efficient sustainability of New Zealand's fishing stocks, commercial fishing is regulated under the Quota Management System (QMS): the Minister of Fisheries sets a total allowable catch (TAC) for each fish stock managed under the QMS based on an annual scientific assessment of population size of all major commercial fish species and, where possible, according to what is determined to be the maximum sustainable yield; the total allowable commercial catch (TACC), a subset of the TAC, is determined after taking into account non-commercial fishing interests and other fishing induced mortality.
