In March 2009, the President unveiled a plan to make Maldives the first carbon-neutral country by virtually eliminating the use of fossil fuel by the year 2020 and putting in place a new renewable electricity generation and transmission infrastructure with 155 large wind turbines, half a square kilometre of rooftop solar panels, and a biomass plant burning coconut husks.

From 2014, Mongolia is eligible to "GSP Plus" of the European Commission on sustainable development and good governance, and around 7,200 products may be exported to the European Union member countries duty-free for 10 years and it enhance possibilities that our export products to have access to the EU market.

(…) In July 2014, the United States and 13 other WTO members, accounting for 86% of global trade in environmental goods, launched negotiations on the Environmental Goods Agreement (EGA). In addition to the United States, Australia, Canada, China, Costa Rica, the European Union, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, Switzerland and Chinese Taipei are participating in the negotiations. The EGA aims to eliminate tariffs on a broad set of environmental technologies such as wind turbines, water treatment filters, and solar water heaters. These negotiations will build on a list of 54 environmental goods on which APEC Leaders agreed to reduce tariffs to 5% or less by the end of 2015.

2015 Trade Policy Framework
Relevant information
In order to give effect to the 2000 Cartagena Biosafety Protocol, the Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) Act was amended in 2006; and the Amendment Act, as well as related regulations came into operation in February 2010. The new legislation seeks to provide for the "responsible development, production, use and application of GMOs", as well as an "adequate level of protection" during all activities involving GMOs that may have an adverse impact on the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity, and human and animal health. In addition, it seeks to ensure that, inter alia, GMOs do not present a hazard to the environment, and to establish appropriate procedures for the notification of specific activities involving the use of GMOs.
