The update includes the removal of the degradable plastic products list from the technical regulation and their inclusion in the guide to be issued by the regulators in the Kingdom of Bahrain, as well as the elimination of biodegradable plastic products covered by the regulations such as shopping clothes, vegetables and fruits plastic bags, where a new decision will be raised by the World Trade Organization regarding the banning single-use plastic bags in the Bahraini market.

Final Draft Belize Certification Scheme for Biodegradable Products: As required by the amendment to the Environmental Protection (Pollution from Plastics) Regulation, 2019, all biodegradable products shall be registered through this certification scheme before application for permits. This certification scheme is based on third party certification utilizing independent laboratories which forms the basis for suppliers, manufacturers, and importers of bio-based materials and biodegradable products for commercial sale to register products in Belize. The aim is to create consumer confidence, by proving that an independent, neutral and competent body has carefully examined and assessed the product on the basis of the test criteria (limited to bio-based content for the interim) . Third-party monitoring ensures that quality checks conducted on the product is maintained which gives added value to the customer in making informed purchases.

Final Draft Belize Standard Specification for Biodegradable Products – Specification and Labelling: This standard was developed to address specification and labelling of biodegradable products imported, distributed, manufactured or sold in Belize. It is intended to be established as a mandatory standard to support the enforcement of the Regulation primarily through the implementation of recognized independent third-party certifications and test results. This standard specifies minimum requirements, test methods and labelling of commercially biodegradable, commercially compostable, anaerobically biodegradable or environmentally biodegradable (soil, water, landfill, etc.) plastics manufactured in or imported into Belize.

The placing on the market of substances that are stable in the atmosphere will, for specific uses, be allowed in refillable containers only. Labeling requirements will be updated to specify containers with reclaimed or recycled substances.

The placing on the market and use of plastic products containing additives that cause the plastic to break down into fragments (oxo-degradable plastics) will be prohibited.

Existing reporting requirements for stationary systems containing refrigerants will be extended with information requirements specific to heat pumps. The placing on the market of temporary ice-rinks containing a refrigerant with a global warming potential higher than 4000 will be prohibited.

A new exemption will be introduced for the manufacture and placing on the market of foams containing substances with an ozone depletion potential smaller than 0.0005, as well as for the manufacture and placing on the market of articles containing such foams.

Approval of the Ministry of the Environment preliminary draft National Strategy on Marine Litter and Microplastics: The preliminary draft National Strategy on Marine Litter and Microplastics has been submitted for consultations. Marine litter, including plastic litter, is a global environmental problem which has an adverse impact on biodiversity and the marine environment, tourism, fishing and marine transport. In light of the above, the Ministry of the Environment (MMA) and the Directorate General of the Maritime Territory and Merchant Marine (DIRECTEMAR) agreed to develop a national strategy on marine litter, together with an action plan.

Decree No. 2016-1152 of 28 December 2016 providing for the mandatory application of certain standards in Côte d'Ivoire: The notified Decree establishes mandatory standards with regard to the specifications for plastics fittings.

Draft Regulation implementing the Law on the reduction of single-use plastics: This Regulation establishes the regulatory framework for the application of the Organic Law for the rationalization, re-use and reduction of single-use plastics.

This standard is binding on all entities, agencies and departments in the public, private, central, autonomous and decentralized sectors, natural and legal persons, communes, communities, peoples, nationalities and groups that are permanently or temporarily located in the national territory.

This Regulation is for the implementation of the provisions of the Organic Law for the rationalization, re-use and reduction of single-use plastics. With regard to the application of this Regulation, the following objectives shall be taken into account:
1. To progressively reduce at source single-use plastics available on the domestic market.
2. To provide incentives for reducing the generation of plastic waste and exploiting it through reuse, recycling or processing.

The Ministerial Decree No. 610 /2020 (4 pages, in Arabic) mandating the Egyptian Standard ES 3043 "Plastics sacks for household waste collection - Types, requirements and test methods": The Ministerial Decree No. 610 /2020 gives the producers and importers a six-month transitional period to abide by the Egyptian standard ES 3043.

This standard specifies the general characteristics, test methods and requirements for sacks, bags and bin liners, made from plastic films, used for household waste collection, or household selective waste collection including collection of biodegradable waste for organic recycling (biodegradation and composting) .

For the purpose of this Standard biodegradable and compostable sacks, including ties if any, are those which comply with EN 13432.

It applies only to sacks, bags and bin liners for which the first use is for household waste collection, or household selective waste collection.

Worth mentioning is that this standard is technically identical with EN 13592/2017.

Draft Commission Delegated Directive amending, for the purposes of adapting to scientific and technical progress, Annex IV to Directive 2011/65/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards an exemption for the use of bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) in plastic components in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) detector coils: This draft Commission Delegated Directive concerns an application to grant a new specific and temporary exemption from the Directive 2011/65/EU (RoHS 2) substance restrictions.

Draft Commission Regulation on recycled plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with foods, and repealing Regulation (EC) No 282/2008: This draft Commission Regulation concerns the placing on the market of plastic materials and articles with recycled/secondary plastic content intended for use in contact with food. It sets out rules for the manufacture thereof, suitable recycling technologies, recycling processes, recycling installations, plastic waste, collection and sorting of plastic input and the decontamination thereof, and the use of the plastic output, quality control, registration of business operators and enforcement, with the purpose to ensure that the recycled content in the final plastic materials and articles intended for contact with food do not cause harm to the consumers of those foods, or change their quality or organoleptic properties. The Regulation repeals Regulation (EC) No 282/2008, which it will replace.
