The overarching goal of the PDA (Agricultural Development Policy) is to "help turn Mali into an emerging country where the agricultural sector would be one of the drivers of the national economy and the guarantor of food sovereignty within a sustainable development approach". This goal translates into the following specific objectives: (a) ensure food security for the population and guarantee food sovereignty for the nation; (b) ensure rational management of natural resources and the environment, taking into account climate change; (c) modernize agricultural production systems and improve the competitiveness of agricultural subsectors by adding value to agricultural products; (d) ensure the development of technological innovations through agricultural research and vocational training; (e) promote the status of farmers and build the capacities of all stakeholders; (f) reduce rural poverty.
