3.84. (...) Standards also become mandatory if they are cited in the legislation as it is the case of the standards for biodegradable plastics. [87]
[87] According to the authorities, as of July 2022, only standards regarding biodegradable plastic have become mandatory through their publication in the legislation. These standards are contained in: (i) the Environment Protection (Restriction on Manufacturing, Importation and Distribution of Plastic Bags) Regulations, 2017; and (ii) Environment Protection (Restriction on Importation, Distribution and Sale of Plastic Utensils and Polystyrene Boxes) Regulations, 2017, both dated 30 June 2017.

3.86. From 1 January 2015 to 30 June 2022, Seychelles made four Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) notifications (i.e. regular notifications) regarding proposed technical regulations. These measures covered plastics items (bags and straws) and tobacco, and were based on health, safety, and environmental considerations.

3.13. The United States also seeks to protect our oceans and marine resources, and those whose livelihoods depend on them, from the harm caused by plastic pollution. In 2022, the United States supported the launch of multilateral negotiations on an international agreement on plastic pollution. The United States recognizes the key role that trade plays as both a contributor to the problem of plastic pollution in the environment, including the marine environment, and its potential to serve as an important part of the solution.
