4.34. In 2014, a 5 MW solar plant, a joint venture between BAPCO, NOGA, and two US-based firms (Caspian Energy Holdings and Petra Solar) was completed in Awali. The authorities indicate that the EWA is in the process of commissioning a combined solar/wind plant at Addur, with a capacity of 3 MW and 2 MW from solar and wind, respectively. It is expected to be completed in November 2021.

4.35. In 2017, Bahrain adopted Resolution No. 2 of 2017 with a view to regulating the electricity production from renewable energy and the linkage with the EWA's distribution network. The objectives of the Resolution are to, inter alia: (i) establish a clear legislative framework regulating the connection of renewable energy generators to the electricity distribution system; (ii) encourage various entities to generate electricity from renewable energy; (iii) contribute to diversifying energy sources through increasing the share of renewable energies in the energy mix; (iv) contribute to the protection of environment; and (v) ensure open access and the right of every electricity customer to install renewable energy generators at the customer's site, and interconnect them to the electricity distribution system without discrimination.

2.71. More than 60% of the water resources in Central Asia are originated in the Republic of Tajikistan, which is a great opportunity for the development of green energy. Currently, about 98% of electricity is generated by hydroelectric power stations, and according to studies by international financial institutions, Tajikistan is ranked 6th in green energy production. The country has a huge hydro-energy potential of 527 billion kWh, but only uses about 6% of it.

2.72. In order to achieve the country's strategic goal of ensuring energy independence and energy saving, the Government has made effective reforms to strengthen institutions within the energy sector, in particular through the restructuring OJSH "Barqi Tojik", the introduction of billing systems, the construction of new infrastructure, the reconstruction of existing infrastructure and the provision of financial reports in accordance with international financial reporting standards and energy saving.
