This proposal for a Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council addresses certain plastic products to prevent and reduce their impact on the environment , in particular the aquatic environment , and on human health. Where alternatives are easily available and affordable, single-use plastic products will be banned from being placed on the Union market. For other products, the focus is on prevention measures, such as consumption reduction, marking requirements and product design requirements.

1. The Republic of Korea has amended the Act on the Promotion of Saving and Recycling of Resources as of 24 December 2018, which will come into force on 25 December 2019. The amended Act requires that materials and structures of packaging be graded and evaluated according to their recyclability. Once the grades are determined, they should also be marked on the labels of products, which is to promote the production of easily recyclable packaging. The grades should be labelled on each product, but they have nothing to do with sales ban.
2. The Amendment of sub-Act in August 2019 is for the enforcement procedures defined in the higher Act (Act on the Promotion of Saving and Recycling of Resources) . 3. A grace period will be granted after the entry into force of the amended Act in consideration of industry's preparation period. Nine months will be granted for grading and evaluation and up to 15 months for labeling, which adds up to a total of 2 years for the entire grace period. 4. In addition, a ban will be imposed on PVC plastics and colored PET bottles, which have extremely negative impact on recycling process. However, if such packaging does not have substitutes available on the market or are closely related to people's diet and medicines, they will be exempt from the ban. Colored PET bottles will be banned only for mineral water and drinks. 5. In principle, a year is given to manufacturers to improve their products' recyclability. In case there have been changes in manufacturing process or for similar reasons, a 3-year improvement period is given, and if no improvement is made within this period, either the use of such product is banned or a fine is imposed. |

With a view to protecting marine environment from plastic microbeads influence, the Environmental Protection Administration intends to propose amendments to the restrictions on the manufacture, import and sale of personal care and cosmetics products containing particles by extending the scope to cover personal care and cosmetic products containing non-natural polymers, such as solid synthetic waxes. The proposed amendments was drawn up by referring to Sweden's restrictive regulations on plastic microbeads in personal care and cosmetics products. Two transition periods will be provided for the businesses to comply with the new requirements.

Chemicals | Draft Uganda Standard covers unpigmented,…
Draft Uganda Standard covers unpigmented, unsupported, low-density polyethylene and linear low-density polyethylene films (hereafter referred to as film or films) with densities ranging from 0.910 g/cm3 - 0.925 g/cm3.
Note 1. The density of a film will not necessarily be equal to the density of a moulded plaque from the same resin. Note 2. Blends of ethylene/vinyl acetate (EVA) with low-density polyethylene may have densities up to 0.929 g/cm3. This Draft Uganda Standards is applicable to homopolymer polyethylene, but is not restricted to it. It is applicable to films made from polyethylene copolymers, and also applicable to films made from blends of homopolymers and copolymers, including ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymers. The thickness of the films covered by this Draft Uganda Standard is from 30.0μm to 101.6μm, inclusive. The maximum width of the sheet or lay flat is 3.30m. The Draft Standard does not cover oriented heat-shrinkable films. The Draft Standard allows for the use of recycled polyethylene film or resin as feedstock, in whole or in part, as long as all of the requirements of this specification are met and as long as any specific requirements as governed by the producer and end user are also met. It defines the levels of the various physical properties from which specifications for specific films may be described. The Draft Standard covers dimensional tolerances, classifications, intrinsic quality requirements, and test methods. The dimensional tolerances include thickness, width, and length or yield. Classification defines types, classes, surfaces, and finishes. The intrinsic quality requirements include density, workmanship, tensile strength, heat sealability, and odour, as well as the classification properties for impact strength, coefficient of friction, optical properties, and surface treatment. A sampling method is included. (...) |
