The Protocol of Agreement on Energy Efficiency in Large-Scale Mining, signed in 2008 by the Ministries of Mining and Energy, the National Energy Commission, the sector's trade associations (the Mining Council and the National Mining Society) and Chile's principal mining enterprises, provides for the promotion of research aimed at introducing improved energy efficiency practices into mining.
