Notwithstanding the considerable potential of the Republic of Moldova's fertile soils, the agriculture sector's productivity is hampered by, inter alia,: infrastructure deficiencies, particularly in rural areas; the limited coverage and poor condition of irrigation systems; a weak SPS framework; and a declining and ageing rural labour force. Vulnerability to adverse climatic conditions and soil erosion also remains a major limiting factor.
