4.7. (...) Saint Kitts and Nevis, together with other Caribbean countries, has signed a memorandum of understanding endorsing the partnership between the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM) and the Organization for Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Central American Isthmus (OSPESCA) for the conservation, management, and sustained development of marine life. Assistance was also provided by the Government during the COVID-19 pandemic.

4.10. During the period under review, the agriculture sector continued benefiting from SIDF[Sugar Industry Diversification Foundation of Saint Kitts & Nevis] financing, but this assistance is currently terminated. Assistance was concentrated on six projects: (...) (ii) the Hydroponics Community Farms project, focused on training to help grow crops vertically in stacked pots of coconut; (iii) the Agricultural Resource Management (ARM) Project, which helps farmers to use soil conservation and land management techniques to improve the quality and yield of their produce; and deals with the construction of shade houses and training farmers in the production of vegetables under shade houses; (...)

4.69. The principal object of the EC Act is to give effect to the purposes of the Treaty Establishing the Eastern Caribbean Telecommunications Authority signed at St George's, Grenada, on 4 May 2000, and to regulate an electronic communications service and an electronic communications network in Saint Kitts and Nevis. The objectives of the Act include to (...) (viii) ensure the overall development of electronic communications in the interest of the sustainable development of Saint Kitts and Nevis; (...)

The 2021 Act mandates that the Appropriate Authority for Aviation Security (SCASPA) shall be responsible for (i) establishing and properly staffing of a security organization; (ii) developing laws, regulations, programmes, policies, and procedures and ensuring that these requirements are effective, are being implemented, and are sustainable; (...)

St. Kitts and Nevis introduced legislation to regulate Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) in 2012. Act No. 14 of 2012, known as the Biosafety Act, 2012 regulates the registration and licensing of GMOs. There are licences for intentional introduction of GMOs in the environment, for domestic use, for contained use, for imports, and for exports. A Biosafety Board was established to implement the provisions of the Act, but as at February 2014 was not yet functioning.

(…) The Department (of Agriculture)'s stated mission is "to be a high quality provider of leadership and support in non-sugar agriculture; to secure food self-sufficiency and satisfy export markets towards sustainable development in St. Kitts and Nevis".\

The agricultural diversification programme is expected to facilitate growth within the sector and must be sustainable through the integration of techniques and processes used in crop cultivation, livestock farming and marine resource management. This would ensure that output in the sector is enhanced while reducing the real risks of land degradation, depletion of water resources and soil nutrients, contamination of the soil, potable and coastal waters, destruction of terrestrial and marine ecosystems and food loss.

(…) The Department of Agriculture in the Ministry is responsible for the development of non-sugar agriculture in St. Kitts, and provides a wide range of services as well as technical support. The Department's stated mission is "to be a high quality provider of leadership and support in non-sugar agriculture; to secure food self–sufficiency and satisfy export markets towards sustainable development in St. Kitts and Nevis". The Department promotes production diversification, economic linkages with other sectors, and conservation of the eco-system. It operates with specific programmes for crop and livestock development; the programmes are guided by a Strategic Plan and implemented through the Annual Work Programme, which reflects a broader Agricultural Development Strategy.
