To support the electric/hybrid vehicles market development and its manufacturing eco-system. The scheme is operated as an effort towards controlling high levels of environmental pollution, global warming and fossil fuel usage in road transport.

Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles in India (FAME India)-Phase-II.
Subsidy is provided to buyers in the form of upfront reduced market price of vehicle to enable wider adoption with emphasis on providing affordable and environmentally friendly public and private transportation/ vehicular mobility options for the masses. Subsidy is linked with battery capacity (KWh) for all vehicles with a cap based on ex-showroom cost of vehicles.

(A) Assistance under the scheme is provided to the following categories of manufacturing units:
i) MSME Units: As defined by Government of India, from time to time
ii) Large units (units in which investment on Plant & Machinery is less than Rupees 5000 million except MSMEs.
iii) Mega Units (units in which investment on Plant & Machinery is of at least Rupees 5000 million or direct employment generation of 2,000. Further, for sectors such as textiles, food processing, biotech etc, definition of mega units will be different.
