Draft Public Utilities (Water Supply) (Amendment) Regulations 2016 (2 pages, in English) . Notice will be published in the Republic of Singapore's Government Gazette when adopted.

Public Utilities (Water Supply) Regulations will be amended to introduce Minimum Water Efficiency Standards for Taps & Mixers. From 31 March 2017, all taps and mixers to be supplied or for sale for potable water use in Singapore must be of at least 1-tick water efficiency rating.
Environment related objective
For the purposes of water conservation as part of an overall effort to strengthen the sustainability of Singapore's water resources. Taps and mixers accounts for a large part of water usage, especially in households. The new requirement would help moderate water use in this area and also benefit consumers in terms of cost saving s from the use of more efficient taps/mixers.

Singapore's Mandatory Water Efficiency Labelling Scheme (MWELS) for clothes washing machines intended for household use was introduced in 2011. Under the Scheme, all clothes washing machines intended for household use must be registered and labelled to provide information on their water efficiency level before they can be sold or supplied in Singapore. In October 2015, the minimum water efficiency standard for washing machines was raised to 2-tick rating as part of Singapore's effort in water conservation.
Environment related objective
The proposed introduction of a new 4-tick water efficiency rating for washing machine is part of Singapore's effort in water conservation.

Environmental Protection and Management Act (EPMA)

NEA is proposing a plan to phase out the use of mercury-added batteries (including button cell batteries) containing more than 5ppm mercury (by weight) per cell, under the Second Schedule of the existing Environmental Protection and Management Act (EPMA) .The phase-out would mean that companies cannot manufacture, import and export mercury-added batteries (including button cell batteries) in and into Singapore, by 2018.
Environment related objective
Objective: To protect and enhance the environment by minimising the end-of-life environmental impact of batteries at the end of their useful life.

Rationale: Singapore signed the Minamata Convention on 10 October 2013 to demonstrate the country's commitment to safeguard the environment. The Minamata Convention on Mercury (Convention) is a global, legally binding instrument that seeks "to protect the human health and the environment from anthropogenic emissions and releases of mercury and mercury compounds."
