7. Import of waste shipment:The import of waste into the EU is for some waste controlled under a permit system administered by the national competent authorities. Its requirements are tied in with those of the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal.
Environment related objective
To ensure that trans-boundary movements of hazardous wastes and other wastes is to be reduced to the minimum consistent with the environmentally sound and efficient management of such wastes and to be conducted in such a manner which will protect human health and the environment against the adverse effects which may result from such movement.
Measure description Coverage of the measure
7. Import of waste shipment:The import of waste into the EU is for some waste controlled under a permit system administered by the national competent authorities. Its requirements are tied in with those of the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal.
The system applies to hazardous wastes and other wastes as listed in the schedules of the Basel Convention originating in and coming from all countries that are a party to the Basel Convention or OECD.

8. Import of Harvested Timber: The Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT licensing) scheme is a voluntary scheme to ensure that only legally produced timber products are imported into the EU from countries with which the EU concludes bilateral FLEGT Voluntary Partnership Agreements (VPAs). Under an operational FLEGT licensing scheme, a partner country issues FLEGT licences for every shipment of timber products covered by the VPA, exported to the EU.

To implement FLEGT agreements and ensure the legality of harvested timber trade; comply with CITES.

8. Import of Harvested Timber: The Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT licensing) scheme is a voluntary scheme to ensure that only legally produced timber products are imported into the EU from countries with which the EU concludes bilateral FLEGT Voluntary Partnership Agreements (VPAs). Under an operational FLEGT licensing scheme, a partner country issues FLEGT licences for every shipment of timber products covered by the VPA, exported to the EU.
Imports of illegally harvested timber and products derived from such timber. The FLEGT licensing scheme applies only to imports from partner countries with which the EU has concluded FLEGT VPAs.

9. Import of Endangered Species (CITES): Documents are required for the import (and (re-)export as well as intra-EU trade) of endangered species listed in Appendices I, II and III of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), whether alive, dead, parts or derivatives, as well as a number of non CITES species covered by the relevant EU legislation. The EU Wildlife Trade Regulations are based on the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and comprise a double-checking system involving export and import controls both at the country of origin and at EU level.

To perform the duty of the CITES aiming at protecting endangered species and to prevent them from over-exploitation in accordance with the CITES.

Import of Endangered Species (CITES): Documents are required for the import (and (re-)export as well as intra-EU trade) of endangered species listed in Appendices I, II and III of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), whether alive, dead, parts or derivatives, as well as a number of non CITES species covered by the relevant EU legislation. The EU Wildlife Trade Regulations are based on the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and comprise a double-checking system involving export and import controls both at the country of origin and at EU level.
