European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development: The EU's rural development policy helps the rural areas of the EU to meet the wide range of economic, environmental and social challenges of the 21st century. Frequently called "the second pillar" of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), it complements the system of direct payments to farmers and measures to manage agricultural markets (the so called "first pillar"). Rural Development policy shares a number of objectives with other European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF).

Measure description Coverage of the measure
European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development: The EU's rural development policy helps the rural areas of the EU to meet the wide range of economic, environmental and social challenges of the 21st century. Frequently called "the second pillar" of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), it complements the system of direct payments to farmers and measures to manage agricultural markets (the so called "first pillar"). Rural Development policy shares a number of objectives with other European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF).
Grants: Farmers or groups of farmers, in specific cases other businesses and/or public entities; Financial Instruments: The body that implements the financial instrument or the fund of funds (e.g. banks) is considered to be the beneficiary of the financial instrument. In the field of energy, the EAFRD focuses on the support of rural development under investment in physical assets. Support for processing of agricultural biomass for renewable energy, production of bioenergy for on farm use and support of infrastructure for energy supply for distributing renewable energy are available. Under farm and business development measure, renewable energy production can also be supported as a startup aid for non agricultural activities or diversification into non agricultural activities.
