To contribute to the long term sustainable development of an area

To promote sustainable fisheries and aquaculture and fosters the implementation of measures that are subject to new rules to ensure better compliance of Member States and operators with the objectives, rules and targets of the reformed Common Fisheries Policy (CFP); To protect the environment through measures in support of fisheries resources management, including the transition to maximum sustainable yield (MSY), the introduction of the landing obligation and the adoption of long term management plans; To support environmentally sustainable, resource efficient, competitive fisheries which are more selective, produce less discards, and do less damage to marine ecosystems; To help fishermen to adapt to new sustainable fishing practices; To maintain jobs by supporting blue and green growth, complementary activities to fishing, inland fishing and aquaculture

The Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), which was reformed on 1 January 2014, aims to ensure that fishing and aquaculture are environmentally, economically and socially sustainable and that they provide a source of healthy food for EU citizens.

To promote sustainable development

In 2007-2013 the objectives include the protection and improvement of the environment. For the period 2014-2020 the ERDF focuses its investments on several key priority areas including the low-carbon economy

To offset the costs of transporting hazardous waste that cannot be treated or disposed of in the territories where it is produced (French Overseas Departments and Saint Martin) (This is due to the lack of suitable local waste treatment plants and the need to send waste to mainland Europe or another French Overseas Departments for treatment)

To help a number of public research institutions to provide the public with the scientific knowledge needed for a better understanding of the mechanisms of interaction between air transport and the environment (climate, alternative fuels, icing)

To develop knowledge which improves the technological base in order to enhance the environmental performance of air transport

To encourage sustainable research in the fields: low pollutant and safe aircrafts of the next generation, low noise all weather helicopters, efficient and ecologically friendly engines in line with the ecological goals of the ACARE Vision 2020 and Flightpath 2050

To encourage research and development of components for an environmentally friendly, safe and efficient aviation system

To stimulate investment in environmental protection projects

To mitigate the country's environmental problems, thus improving the quality of life of the society and promoting the adaptation of the economy to the environmental processes:
- Creation and maintenance of an environment suitable for living in;
- Protection and conservation of our assets; and
- Prevention, economy, energy efficiency.
