Reporting Service No. 3 2021 (https://gd.eppo.int/reporting/article-6988) cited recent research indicating an expanded distribution of Phytophthora ramorum. In response, after subsequent investigation of the cited research, Japan is now recognised as a high-risk country where Phytophthora ramorum is present. The cited research is Jung, T., et al. Australia now also recognises Argentina as a high-risk country where Phytophthora ramorum is present, as a result of research conducted by Vélez, M. V., et al. As set out in the Biosecurity Advice 2021-A04 (https://www.agriculture.gov.au/biosecurity/risk-analysis/memos), the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment initiated an assessment in response to stakeholder requests for an alternative heat treatment for fish and fish products for use as pet food and stockfeed imported into Australia. This draft assessment uses infectious pancreatic necrosis virus (IPNV), the most thermo-chemical treatment-resistant aquatic animal virus, as the minimum standard for aquatic pathogen inactivation. The department has undertaken this assessment to determine if IPNV is inactivated by the proposed heat treatment. (...)
