Prohibitions and restrictions on the export of certain goods are imposed pursuant to El Salvador's international commitments on the environment

While the PCT applications increased steadily, Japan's national applications for environmental technology have experienced a decrease of 7.2% since 2005. This was in line with the decrease of overall national patent applications, which may be attributed partly to economic constraints and to the industry's adaptation to the patent strategy (Chart III.11).

Establishment of a Tax Free Region (TFR) with effect from 1 January 2009 where all importation of renewable energy and energy conservation goods and equipment will be granted duty free concessions.

The UAE is a signatory to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), the Basel Convention on Hazardous Wastes, the Rotterdam Convention on Trade in Hazardous Chemicals, the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, and the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme. Goods prohibited from entering the UAE are listed in Table 3.4.

The electricity sector is open to private participation, both domestic and foreign. A concession is required only in order to generate electricity from hydraulic or geothermal sources. Most electricity generation and all distribution are in the hands of private companies, while transmission is in the hands of a state owned operator. During the review period, El Salvador extended and relaxed its tax incentives regime for investment in renewable energy projects. The subsidy for industrial electricity consumption was abolished in 2009, and the subsidy for low residential electricity consumption was suspended in 2015. (...)
