Government TPR WT/TPR/G/378 G-III§10 Vanuatu 2018 Sectors General environmental reference Agriculture
Relevant information
Vanuatu's inability to increase and sustain agricultural production is exacerbated by the negatives effects of climate change and climate variability. With temperatures increasing, seasonal rainfall patterns shifting, and extreme events more frequent and severe, the incidence of heat, water, pest/disease and soil fertility stress are drastically hampering already risk prone production. While agricultural climate adaptation programs are now widespread (e.g. via SPCGIZ, the World Bank and others) there is still a severe deficit in climate knowledge, information, technology and implementation for vulnerable farmers.

• Circular Economy: The Separate Customs Territory of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu is dedicated to establishing a circular economy of supply and demand for energy resources using concepts of recycling and resource efficiency. By 2025, we expect the rate of recycled domestic resources to increase to 17%, and the targets for incineration and landfill reduction to increase to 7% for general waste and 3% for industrial waste treatments, respectively. To reach these goals, we will assist companies in developing and adopting environment-friendly technologies with lower levels of pollution, fewer carbon emissions, greater safety, and higher recyclability in order to realize the circular economy. In the process, we have started the "New Material Recycling Industry Park" project in Dalinpu, Kaohsiung to demonstrate the economic benefits of using fewer resources and establishing a sustainable business. The hope is to create a sustainable circular model by means of well-designed energy and resource links.

Relevant information
Recent results of field research on Queen Conch and Sea Cucumber stocks have helped Belize to develop and implement improved management strategies for these fisheries to ensure sound management and sustainable use. The full implementation of Managed Access Program and implementation of an Adaptive Management Framework (AMF) to all fishing areas in Belize is designed to address the need for assessment and management of data-limited fisheries. The expansion of marine protected areas to 21.7% of the territorial sea, coupled with a planned expansion of replenishment area (no-take zones) from 3.15% to 10% will undoubtedly place Belize in an advantageous position to better manage its fishery resources and contribute to the sustainable growth and development of the sector.

Government TPR WT/TPR/G/317 G-III§10 European Union 2015 Trade Policy Framework
Relevant information
On 20 November 2013, the EU adopted its 7th Environment Action Programme (EAP) to 2020. It is a common strategy for both EU institutions and Member States and shall guide environment policy. The EAP identifies three key objectives to be achieved by 2020:
• to protect, conserve and enhance the Union’s natural capital;
• to turn the Union into a resource-efficient, green, and competitive low-carbon economy;
• to safeguard the Union's citizens from environment-related pressures and risks to health and wellbeing.
In addition, four so-called 'enablers' will help Europe deliver on these goals:
• better implementation of legislation;
• better information by improving the knowledge base;
• more and wiser investment for environment and climate policy;
• full integration of environmental requirements and considerations into other policies.
Finally, two additional horizontal priority objectives complete the programme:
• to make the Union's cities more sustainable;
to help the Union address international environmental and climate challenges more effectively;
