Mexican Official Standard NOM-061-SAG-PESC/SEMARNAT-2016: Technical specifications for turtle excluder devices used by the shrimp trawling fleet in waters under the federal jurisdiction of the United Mexican States

The Federal Government has established a set of regulations and technical processes to protect, conserve and foster the recovery of populations of various species of sea turtles and their nesting areas. The regulations and processes seek to ensure that fishing activities have as little impact as possible on these populations

The Environment Protection (Banning of Plastic Bags) Regulations 2015 bans the import, manufacture, sale or supply of a plastic bag. The regulations apply to plastic bags designed for carrying, with or without handles or gussets, and irrespective of their size or type.

To cater for essential uses, a list of plastic bags has been exempted. It is mandatory for all manufacturers and importers of exempted plastic bags to register with the Director of Environment.

The Environment Protection (Banning of Plastic Bags) (Amendment) Regulations 2015 bans the import, manufacture, sale or supply of a plastic bag, with or without handles or gussets, and irrespective of their size or type. The regulations specifically target plastic bags designed to carry goods purchased at a point of sale such as a wholesale or retail outlet, a market, a fair and a hawker.

Plastic bags meant for essential uses have been exempted from the ban and these also include biodegradable and compostable plastic bags. However, the import or manufacture of biodegradable and compostable plastic bags has to be in conformity with standards prescribed in the Third Schedule of the Regulations.

Timber Legality Assurance System (TLAS): Import Regulations (1 pages, in English)

There is growing concern and demands towards legality of timber source, along the value chain. A practical definition of legally produced timber will require all laws and regulations right from harvest to export point, including imported products. The import regulation within TLAS requires additional documentation as supporting evidence on legal source of timber from producing countries.

The notified document establishes the requirements governing the marketing registration of bio -inputs and related substances used in agriculture. It applies to the registration of bio -inputs and related substances that are formulated, produced, imported, marketed and distributed for agricultural use.

Botanical pesticides, microbiological pesticides and biosolids are excluded from the scope of this Standard.

Organic agricultural products. Production, processing, marketing, certification and labelling requirements

The notified Technical Regulation establishes the provisions and procedures governing the production, registration, certification, processing, labelling, storage, transport and marketing of organic agricultural products. It applies to the following products that carry or should carry a descriptive label relating to organic production methods.

A product is considered to carry information concerning organic production methods when the label or property claims, including advertising material and commercial documents, describe the product or its ingredients using the terms " organic ", " biological " or " ecological " or other similar internationally recognized vocabulary, including abbreviated forms, which suggest to the buyer that the product or its ingredients have been obtained using organic production methods in the country in which they have been put on the market.
