Draft amendment announced by MFDS called Labelling Standard for Genetically Modified Foods (Notice No. 2016-150 of the MFDS, 21 April 2016) .

• To expand GM labelling requirements to any food products (including processed food products, food additives, functional health foods, livestock processing products, agricultural products, sprouts made by germination of GM agricultural products; hereinafter referred to as GM foods) that contain genetically modified DNA or genetically modified proteins.

• To add a clause for GM labelling exemption for highly refined food products such as sugars and oils etc. for which genetically modified DNA or genetically modified proteins are not detectable.

Proposed Amendments to the Act and its enforcement decree and rule on Promotion of Environment -friendly Agriculture and Fisheries , and Management of and Support for Organic Foods (46 pages, in Korean; 13 pages, in Korean; 79 pages, in Korean).

The main amended contents in this document are as follows:

• The private certification body alone will conduct certification process which was previously conducted by both private certification body and National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service(NAQS) for the sake of fairness and equity of certification body(Article 20.1, 34.3)

• Separate labeling of organic food will be allowed for the sake of organic food export promotion(Article 23.3.2,3, New Act)

• The official notice and quality certification system of organic agricultural and fisheries material will be integrated into ?official notice? system only(Article 37.2, 42)

Draft of Standard and Specification of Wood Products (52 pages, in Korean)

Standard and Specification of Wood Products were established in order to enhance the quality of wood products and to establish an order related to its distribution in pursuance of the Act on the Sustainable Use of Woods, Article 20 (public notification of criteria for standard dimensions and quality of wood products and inspection thereof) . In the present version of the notification, the standard and specification of sawn timber has been included, and the quality standard of nonstructural glued laminated timber and glued laminated board has also been amended.

Draft Mexican Official Standard PROY-NOM-138-SSA1-2015 establishing the sanitary specifications for denatured ethyl alcohol, used as a wound dressing material, for undenatured 96° G.L. ethyl alcohol, used as a raw material in the production of denatured ethyl alcohol as a wound dressing material, and for packaging establishments

Ethyl alcohol, or ethanol, is one of the most widely used wound dressing materials, due to its antiseptic properties. However, given that ethyl alcohol can be easily obtained by the general population and is an addictive substance, it may be used inappropriately (ingested), and its consumption may lead to public health problems. Denaturing substances are therefore added to ethyl alcohol, such as denatonium benzoate, sucrose octaacetate and acetone, which give it an unpleasant taste. Nevertheless, it is necessary to issue provisions on the control and processing of this wound dressing material, in order to prevent it from being used for purposes other than those for which it is marketed, namely, to dress wounds.
