Import licenses are required for: Free movement of hazardous chemicals and adding biocide into a temporary list of biocides; The system applies to goods originating and coming from all countries.

1 Minister of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change: Mauritius has successfully implemented its Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) Phase out Management Plan since 2005 and importation of CFCs have been completely banned. Presently, a Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFC) Phase out Management Plan (HPMP) has been developed/approved in 2011 and importation of HCFC refrigerants is being controlled. A quota system based on a baseline figure (the average amount of HCFC refrigerants imported in 2009 and 2010), has been set up/implemented, since 2013. In 2015, as required under the Montreal Protocol and as provided in the HPMP, a 10% reduction was applied to the baseline import and a quota system worked out accordingly (2019).

The majority of endemic Mauritian flora and fauna are considered threatened and with some 60 species of native plants believed to be already extinct (2019).
