The new sanitary and phytosanitary chapter provides scope for better communication and cooperation between Canada and Chile, including through the modernized bilateral Sanitary and Phytosanitary Committee, to address issues that may impact trade in agricultural, fish and forestry products while maintaining the rights of Parties to take measures necessary for the protection of human, animal or plant life or health.

The Protocol to Amend the Free Trade Agreement and the Supplementary Agreement on Trade in Services of the Free Trade Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Chile and the Government of the People's Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as "the Protocol") has integrated and upgraded the Free Trade Agreement and its Supplementary Agreement on Trade in Services, further raising the liberalization level of tariff concession and service commitments. The Protocol has also optimized the rules of origin and its procedures for implementation, increased areas of economic and technical cooperation. Furthermore, the Protocol added new chapters of Customs Procedures and Trade Facilitation, E-commerce, Competition and Environment and trade.

The Agreement covers trade in goods, i.e. trade in industrial products, including fish and other marine products, and agricultural products. Also included are provisions on inter alia intellectual property rights, services, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, rules of origin, trade facilitation, competition, trade and sustainable development, in addition to institutional provisions and provisions on dispute settlement. The Agreement establishes a Joint Committee, which will supervise the application thereof.

The EU–Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) establishes a free trade area for trade in goods, within the meaning of Article XXIV of the GATT 1994, and for trade in services, within the meaning of Article V of the GATS. The Agreement also contains provisions such as on Government Procurement, Investment Liberalisation, Intellectual Property, Competition Policy, Subsidies, State-Owned Enterprises, Regulatory Cooperation, Trade and Sustainable Development, Cooperation in the field of Agriculture, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, and a Dispute Settlement Mechanism.

The FTA covers trade in goods and related issues, trade in services, investment (establishment), dispute settlement mechanism and also contains provisions to ensure effective protection of intellectual property, promote competition, and enhance protection of environment.
