The Import Health Standard contains specific import requirements. These are the rules to manage the biosecurity risk associated with regulated pests that may be imported into New Zealand in association with Prunus plants for planting.

The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) has amended the Import Health Standard for Primates from Australia, Canada, the European Union, USA and Singapore. The amended standard allows for all species (with the exception macaques) of primates holding a containment approval by the Environmental Protection Authority to be imported.

MPI has issued an amendment to the Import Health Standard: Grain and seeds for consumption, feed or processing. The import health standard dated 25 October 2019 replaces the earlier version of the standard dated 25 January 2019. The following changes have been applied:

The import health standard contents were moved from the 2003 format into the current MPI standard format "Requirements and Guidance". Some contents have been placed in a different order due to the different "Parts" in this new format. The import requirements and the guidance information have been clearly separated throughout the import health standard. The regulated pest lists have been amended and pests listed below removed because they are listed as non-regulated in the biosecurity organisms register for imported commodities (BORIC) (...)

These draft requirements apply to achieving the highest level of health protection for human, animal and environmental, and setting general rules and responsibilities for food owners of facilities and establishments.

In order to ensure the high level of protection of human health and consumer's concerns while providing fair marketing, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) is proposing the draft notification on Genetically Modified Foods. Approval of the List of substances (ingredients, components) that are allowed to be used in organic production process and allowed to be used in maximum permissible quantities. This list includes their description, composition requirements and conditions of use, which are in compliance with EU legislation in this field.

EPA is proposing to revoke certain tolerances for fenoxaprop-ethyl, flufenpyr-ethyl, maleic hydrazide, pyrazon, and quinclorac in follow up to canceled products or where a commodity is no longer a significant livestock feed item or a tolerance is no longer needed. In addition, EPA is proposing to establish exemptions from certain tolerances for maleic hydrazide and to modify certain tolerances for quinclorac and imazapyr. In accordance with current Agency practice, EPA also is proposing to update the nomenclature for certain tolerances for fenoxaprop-ethyl and triflumizole, to remove expired tolerances for certain pesticide active ingredients, and to conform with rounding class practices for certain existing tolerances of specific pesticide active ingredients.

APHIS is advising the public that it is making available a draft programmatic environmental assessment for the importation of plants in approved growing media. The programmatic environmental assessment considers the potential environmental effects of a standardized set of pest risk mitigations for routine market requests to import plants in approved growing media. The programmatic environmental assessment would eliminate the need to prepare a unique environmental assessment for each routine market request, thereby making the process for approving imports of plants in approved growing media simpler and more efficient. APHIS is proposing to revise its regulations regarding the movement (importation, interstate movement, and environmental release) of certain genetically engineered organisms in response to advances in genetic engineering and APHIS' understanding of the plant pest risk posed by them, thereby reducing regulatory burden for developers of organisms that are unlikely to pose plant pest risks.
