Research programmes are aimed to assure scientific and technological progress in the agriculture policy, developments of regional and social policy in rural areas, and to cover economical aspects and environmental protection in the establishment of effective and competitive farms.

The notified scheme is in accordance with the requirements of Annex 2 of the Agreement on Agriculture, and meets the specific criteria of paragraph 2(a): research, including general research, research in connection with environmental programmes, and research programmes relating to particular products.

To increase effectiveness and maintain high productivity herds for the farms, which meet basic environmental standards.

To protect underground water against pollution and to develop ecological farming.
(3) Detailed description of measure with reference to criteria:

Target-oriented program concerning the protection of underground water against pollution and the development of ecological farming.

The notified scheme is in accordance with the requirements of Annex 2 of the Agreement on Agriculture, and meets the specific criteria of paragraph 12: eligibility for such payments shall be determined as part of a clearly-defined government environmental or conservation programme and be dependent on the fulfilment of specific conditions under the government programme, including conditions related to production methods or inputs.

To improve the environmental standards of production, reduce the negative impact of agricultural activity on the environment, and increase biodiversity.

(3) Detailed description of measure with reference to criteria:
Measure I "Investments in agricultural holdings".
The measure aims to improve the quality of agricultural products as well as hygiene and environmental standards of production. These objectives were achieved in parallel with increased efficiency and cost reductions which led to higher income levels and living standards.

Measure II "Improving the processing and marketing of agricultural and fisheries products".
The measure is aimed at improving the quality of food processing and food products as well as hygiene and environmental standards of production. A greater focus was turned to product development, together with investment in efficiency and cost reductions. The measure improved working conditions.

Measure VI " Environmentally friendly agricultural methods";
The main objective of agri- environmental programme is to reduce the negative impact of agricultural activity on the environment, restore the traditional landscape, increase biodiversity and introduce measures that ensure normal economic and social conditions for rural population.
Measure VIII "Technical assistance, information and publicity campaigns".

To preserve and promote farming systems in accordance with environmental requirements.
The measure aims to insure permanent use of an agricultural land in less favourable areas, to preserve and promote farming systems in accordance with environmental requirements, to preserve landscape and rural communities.
