The project is aimed at the conservation and sustainable management of natural resources in the Choluteca, Patuca and Negro river basins, through the strengthening of local organizations, proper and efficient application of related legislation (Forestry Law, Land Use Planning Law and Water Law), and funding to support environmental management investment projects.

Environment related objective
To control the avian influenza in domestic birds and related wild species.
Provision of technical assistance to the Government of Honduras for capacity-building and strengthening of the implementation of selected components of its national action plan for the prevention, control and early detection of highly pathogenic avian influenza. The project, by controlling the virus of this disease in animals (domestic birds and related wild species), will restrict sporadic cases in humans and reduce the likelihood of an avian influenza pandemic in the country.
