To promote biotechnologies.
The program is available to companies engaged in innovation in biotechnology, including human health, animal or plant agricultural biotechnology; the environment; or human or animal nutrition, in one of four Biotechnology Development Centres: Laval, Lévis, Saint-Hyacinthe and Sherbrooke.

To promote marine biotechnology, wind power, marine aquaculture, and incidental commercial operations.
The tax credit is available to companies operating in eligible industries, including seafood, marine biotechnology, wind power, marine aquaculture, and incidental commercial operations.

To manage waste.
The tax credit is available to companies active in: the manufacture of finished or semi-finished products from aluminium having already undergone primary processing; recovery and recycling of waste and residue from aluminum processing; and commercialization operations incidental to manufacturing or processing.

To promote renewable energy.
The objective of this tax credit is to encourage the diversification of the energy supply in Québec.

To protect the forests.
To provide financial and technical assistance to forest producers to carry out logging activities in privately owned forests with a view to protecting and enhancing registered forest land.

The goal of this program is to encourage producers to undertake projects to increase the value of their privately owned forests.

Compensation to forest owners for services rendered to the public. The effect of the assistance programme on trade is negligible, if not non-existent (payments for environmental services like the maintenance of protection forests [e.g. mature tree s cutting in protected forests to allow regeneration while young tree s will be left in the forest where timber transport is difficult due to rugged conditions] or conservation of biodiversity).

To promote specific environment-related sectors operating under the Duty-Free Zone Regime. A Special Commission appointed by the Executive for this purpose will be responsible for defining strategic sectors. When defining a strategic sector, the Commission should take into account projects that foster technological innovation and transfer or promote the incorporation of clean technology, integrated waste management, energy saving s and efficient water management.

The programme aims at: (1) supporting the completion of the EU internal energy market while encouraging the rational production, transportation, distribution and use of energy resources, (2) reducing the isolation of less-favoured and island regions, (3) securing and diversify the EU's energy supplies also through co-operation with third countries, (4) contributing to sustainable development and protection of the environment (including inter alia a greater use of renewable energy sources and the reduction of environmental risks associated with the transportation of energy).

Within the Common Agricultural Policy, the Rural Development policy has been further strengthened in order to allow farmers to face new challenges, such as climate change, renewable energies, water management and biodiversity.
