Regulation (EC) No 1013/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 14 June 2006 on shipments of waste (OJ L 190, 12.7.2006, p.1) and its subsequent amendments

QR No. 6: Import/export of waste restrictions. The measures in place establish the procedures and control regimes for the shipment of waste, depending on the origin, destination and route of the shipment, the type of waste shipped and the type of treatment to be applied to the waste at its destination. In certain specific circumstances the import/export of waste is restricted. Notably:
1) a prohibition on exports to third countries of waste intended for disposal (except to EFTA countries which are party to the Basel Convention), as well as on exports of hazardous waste intended for recovery, except those directed to countries to which OECD Decision applies (the OECD Decision concerns the control of trans-boundary movements of waste s destined for recovery operations).
2) a prohibition on imports from third countries of waste intended for disposal or recovery, except from countries to which the above OECD Decision applies, third countries which are party to the Basel Convention, countries which have concluded a bilateral agreement with the EU or MSs, or other areas during situations of crisis.
