-The tyre industry in Belize has been greatly influenced by the North American tyre industry. The purpose of this standard is to standardize and harmonize the meaning of terms as related to the local tyre industry. This standard contains terms that are common to passenger car and commercial vehicle tyre groups. The terminology is specific to new, used, retreaded and regrooved tyres. This Belize Standard is a glossary which defines terms related to passenger car and commercial vehicle pneumatic tyres. It is divided into six sections dealing respectively with general definitions, definitions related to structure, main components, tyre dimensions, service and injury and repair

Draft Belize Standard Specification for Pneumatic Passenger Car Tyres

-Consumers purchase tyres based on their perception of what constitutes a good quality tyre product. The potential risk involved here is that tyres may contain defects that are not easily detected by untrained consumers and hence become a safety hazard to road users. This standard, therefore, was developed in response to these concerns. It specifies the quality requirements for both new and used tyres for passenger vehicles. It specifically addresses the concerns related to used tyres by incorporating a section with detailed inspection and selection criteria. This standard is based on the metric series of tyres.

-The standard was prepared to provide adequate information to tyre dealers/manufacturers and purchasers/consumers for the safe operational performance of pneumatic tyres used on non-passenger vehicles. Tyre dealers/manufacturers will be guided by the full range of tyre specifications outlined in the standard. The information provided to purchasers/consumers will permit proper selection and use of these tyres
